Summer Fishing
Did a little summer fishing last week at 1st dam in Logan Canyon, used hamburger for bate and caught a couple, but they were too small to keep. Then about two days later we went back up there and fished just above the dam. I caught a nice sized Rainbow and decided to keep it for a fish dinner. We cooked it the next morning for breakfast but it tasted so mossy that we couldn't eat it. The water in the dam is to Stagnant and the fish are bottom feeding to stay in the cool water. What happens is they eat too much moss and end up tasting like the bottom of the dam. This is why I don't care for fishing in the heat of the summer. However if it is a high mountain lake or a cold fast moving stream the fish are more active and taste better if you should choose to have a fish fry. Good Fishing

Low water and small fish
Greetings all
Here it is mid May and I have been driving the canyons of Cache Valley only to find that the water level is much lower than it should be this time of year. I happened to be up Blacksmith Fork Canyon the other day and the fish are jumping, most of them looked smaller but there are a bunch of them.
Good fishing

My trip to Tabiona Utah
Hello all - We made a trip to visit my brother J.C. in Tabiona, Utah and along the way we drove past Jordanelle Reservoir, Echo Reservoir, and Strawberry Reservoir. Echo and Jordanelle are very low, in-fact they look like end of Summer low. Strawberry still had ice on it but the ice was away from the shore by 10 to 20 feet from what I could see. I know that we will get several high country snow storms but I don't believe that it will be enough to fill these reservoirs. The fishing is fair to good in the areas where you could fish, so good luck this season. Good Fishing

Greetings to all my fishing friends. Hope you enjoyed the pictures I posted last.
The weather today is rainy and cool. It's going to be like this off and on all week. The water will be a little cloudy and the feed will be washed down into the stream so the fish will be feeding. I imagine that they are hungry after the winter when the feed is hard to find. The fishing will be best at Hyrum Reservoir all other locations in Cache Valley are only rated as fair. Follow this link to check out other locations in Utah. Good Fishing

A Sunday drive in the canyon
Greetings all Below are photos of my Sunday drive I took with my daughter Jennifer. Jennifer is a good photographer so we took a few pics of our drive. I hope you enjoy them. (1). This is a panoramic of Hyrum Dam. There were a few fisherman and in talking with one of them the fishing at Hyrum Dam is fair. (2). The second photo is Blacksmith Fork River. The water seems a little low for this time of year and there was no one fishing the river. However the water looked good for fishing. (3). Is looking down the canyon and (4). Is lookind down Blacksmith Fork Canyon across the river. (5), (6), and (7), are of Hyrum Dam. Better run, hope you enjoy the pics.

The Ice is leaving Mantua reservoir
Drove past Mantua in Northern Utah and the ice is very thin and dangerous. I have heard that Hyrum, Porcupine and other lakes are loosing their ice as well. The fish are hungry and thin but still are fun to catch and release. Here is a link to check the latest fishing conditions in Utah. Have fun and stay safe

Warmer Temperatures Good Fishing
The Temperatures in Cache Valley are getting warmer and the fishing is changing. The link Warmer Temperatures will take you to a fishing report for Cache Valley. Remember as the weather warms conditions may change rapidly, higher water, soft banks, and poor driving conditions off road. Please be safe we don't want to read about someone getting hurt, but rather the big fish you caught.
Good Fishing

Fishing Lakes in Cache Valley
Have you ever fished in White Pine Lake? It is a lake at over 8000 feet in altitude on Mount Naomi range in Cache County, Utah with the prettiest Brook Trout I have ever caught. It is about a three mile hike in and some of the terrain is rough but all in all not a bad walk for someone who is in shape for hiking. The area is Primitive so there are no motor vehicles allowed, but if you have horses available it's a great ride into the lake. When I was there we used a brass colored Jake's Lure. You can find them through this link JAKE'S LURES Try White Pine and take a night or two and camp, you won't regret it. See this list of lakes in Cache Valley for a variety of outdoor activities follow this link LAKES in CACHE COUNTY.
Have a great outdoor season

Fishing in Logan River and Cache Valley
It's the time of year when I start thinking of fishing. I can feel that the weather is starting to change and Spring is just around the corner. So this morning I started to cruse through some web sites looking at some fishing possibilities when I came across this site. Check it out, just follow the link to FISHING IN LOGAN.
So Spring is on its way and the fish are getting hungry and soon there will be some spring hatchings and you will spending your time on the river. It is said "The time a man spends fishing is not subtracted from his life!"
have a great fishing trip.

Today was warm, feels like a storm is on the way
Today has been a fairly warm day, the weather man says a storm is on the way and we could see snow up to 12 inches in the valley. I don't know about you but I am ready for Summer.
Any way I just wanted to let you know that there is more than fish in the Logan River. As I was driving home last week I looked out at the river while crossing the bridge,(I always look at the river an wonder how the fishing is)I saw a track hoe halfway submerged in the river. I guess they were doing some grooming on the bank and got out too far as onto a silt bed slopping into a good fishing hole. The top hatch of the cab was open so I am assuming that the operator had to escape through the top hatch. Below is a picture of the incident.
The motto of the story is You Can't Fish with a Track Hoe!

Ice Fishing at Mantua Reservoir
We drove past Mantue reservoir yesterday in the morning. There is still a good ice cover still and several people out fishing. I counted four ice huts with numerous people out in the open. From what I hear the fishing is fair but the good times are excellent. The fishing at Logan River is fair and it is suggested to use a Bead Headed Nymphs You can check the following link for more information Logan River. On Hyrum Reservoir the fishing is good check out this link to read more, Hyrum Reservoir. Blacksmith fork River is fair as well and a Nymphs are suggested there as well, see the link to Blacksmith River. Mantua Resevoir fishing is fair check out the link "Mantua".
Good fishing to all of you
Friday, February 15, 2013
Here it is Mid February and too cold for me to fish. However if you like ice fishing Mantua "Man-a-way" is always busy. I hear that they are catching a few and having a lot of fun. Hyrum Dam is busy as well, but I haven't been over that way for a while and the Ice may be getting thin in places.
The rivers here in the valley are fair this time of year but the fish will be skinny, the food supply is getting low. But that just makes the fishing better,
Good Luck and Have Fun;
