I don't know if I have mentioned this, but I help out as a camp host in a local campground in Logan Canyon, UT. One day while I was cleaning picnic sites at 2nd dam I met a little blond lady while she was fishing. Logan Canyon's 2nd dam is a small reservoir located about 2 miles up the scenic Logan Canyon. It's stocked with rainbow and has native browns, brook and even a few albino trout.
The bait used on the dam is salmon eggs, power bait, night crawlers and hamburger. With the right combination of bait a person can have a lot of fun. The little blond that I met has the bait combination down pat. I watch her pull in one fish after another. She catches and releases so on a good day she'll catch 20 to 30 fish.
I have watched as others around her tried to figure out her bait combination, and as they get frustrated they walk away while mumbling obscenities out loud and under their breath. This little girl just laughs.
She told me this story one day after I found some damage in the picnic area. One of the rails on the fence was broken. She said " I was fishing and this couple who were walking their dog and who were somewhat over weight stopped to watch me. As they watched they decided to lean against the rail fence while they watched. As they settled on the one rail it suddenly snapped and the man fell on his back with his arms and legs flailing in the air. By the time his wife got him back on his feet their dog had run clear down to the end of the boardwalk." My blond friend had to turn around while she laughed at the sight of this man laying on his back trying to get himself upright.
Well I hope we all have fun fishing, so stay upright and catch the big one, and if you don't then tell everyone you did!

What others are saying about Logan River
Hello everyone
I was just reviewing another website and here is what they have to say about Logan River and the fishing in this small Northern Utah River,
"Logan River is a blue-ribbon trout stream - one of the best in the Inter mountain Region. It comes out of a canyon to the northeast of Logan and is accessible via US Hwy 89. The river provides about 30 miles of easily accessible, quality roadside trout fishing.
Brown and rainbow trout are commonly caught on the lower river and in the impoundments, which are called First, Second and Third dams. Some years ago a 37 3/4-pound brown trout was pulled from First Dam; nice browns are occasionally caught in the lower river but fish of that size are not expected today. The impoundments are stocked heavily with catchable rainbows for summer fishing and are great places to fish with kids.
Above the impoundments the river is primarily a wild trout stream. Browns and cutthroats both reproduce well in its crystal clear waters. Cutthroats are dominant in the higher reaches."

Better run for now, have a great time fishing and enjoying the outdoors.

Fishing is good
Greetings fishermen and women. The fishing at 2nd and 3rd dam in Logan Canyon, in Northern Utah has been better than average lately. Still the preferred bait is a bright colored power bait mixed with a little hamburger. Hamburger is very hard to keep on the hook and you end up re-baiting after each cast. I have found that a size 14 or 16 treble hook with no spring ( A cheese hook has the spring) works best. I am told that if you mix a little flour with the hamburger it stays on the hook much better. I haven't tried this yet but after I told one of my young campers about it he tried it that same day and reported to me his success. I'm not sure how many fish he has caught using this method but every time I see him he is smiling.
Two weeks ago the Fish and Game planted about 1800 fish in 3rd dam and if they stay on schedule they will plant more Monday Aug 9th. Come camping with us ( for reservations go to "recreation.gov")and spend some time fishing. It will be a blast.
Take a lot of pics and share them with us.

The Cache Valley fishing blog
Here is the first post about fishing in Cache Valley. I help out as a camp host in the Spring Hollow camp ground. This camp ground has 13 camp sites with two group camp sites. Camp sites two (2) thru eight (8) and the group sites are preservable at "recreation.gov" camp site one and 9 thru 13 are first come first serve. Spring Hollow camp site is next to 3rd dam in Logan Canyon. The fishing on the dam is fair to good, best in the early morning and late evening. The preferred bate right now is bright colored power bate and hamburger, and power bate mixed with a little hamburger is the very best.
About 1/2 mile below 3rd dam is 2nd dam. The 2nd dam is a small reservoir and a very popular fishing area. People are in there from early morning to late evening. This area features about 5 or 6 non fee picnic sites with fire pits. The fishing in 2nd dam is good to fair and the bate that seems to work the best is just like 3rd dam, bright colored power bate and hamburger.
Fly fishing is good at both locations and both of these locations are family friendly.
Hope you find this helpful
